Discover The Feuars Arms - Original Victorian Public House 1859
“Come and experience a real piece of local history”
The
Feuars Arms opened for business in 1859. It was named after
‘ The Society of Feuars’, a group of men who worked
for the Oswald family, local landowners as ‘feu’
duty collectors (squeezing money often from the poorest people
of Kirkcaldy). It is a unique public house steeped in history
that is now protected by a “B” listed preservation
order. A visit to The Feuars will be a truly historical one
as you begin to imagine what life was like in Victorian times….
The Victorian Features: The interior is decorated
with hand made Royal Doulton tiles, featuring two beautiful
hand painted tile pictures. The solid mahogany bar is the
longest in Fife, some 59 feet long and styled in a manner
to allow all its visitors the experience of the whole building
at a glance. The Italian mosaic floor, together with the “
gothic” styled stained glass windows completes its main
original features. But let’s not forget the gents toilets,
which boasts one of a limited addition of glass walled cisterns
and a solid marble pedestals, which were hand made by Royal
Doulton. How many public houses have remained unchanged and
in their original style for more than 140 years. Well the
Feuars Arms is a proud piece of true Victorian history. When
